Alumni Football Tournament 2017

On Saturday 1 April, Sport Sheffield saw a record number of small sided football teams return to Goodwin Sports Centre to take part in one of the favorite and most entertaining events in the sporting calendar. This year 36 teams all came back to take part in what turned out to be the most hotly contested tournament of the past 7 years.

Teams who graduated all the way back to 2000 took part and just fell short to those that graduated last year. With the final nicely poised to be played between Crookslodian Thistle Old Boys and Fly Me To The Moon (last year’s winners). After a full day of football Crookslodian started to feel the strain and the youth of Fly Me To The Moon shone through which saw them crowned champions for a second year running.

After the tournament all the teams headed down to Bar One to take part in the famous Alumni Quiz, and to round off the perfect day an evening at Pop Tarts-Reunited.

Matt Pearson the captain of Fly Me To The Moon said

"I know us boys look forward to coming back to Sport Sheffield to play. It was pretty much what our lives in Sheffield revolved around and to win it for a 2nd year tops it off. I would like to thank Sport Sheffield for putting on such a fantastic tournament".
