Annual Alumni Reunion 2010
Every year the University invites its former students back to Sheffield for a day of reminiscing and rediscovery. The fourth Annual Alumni Reunion took place on the 11 September and over 200 alumni returned to the University to celebrate their anniversaries of graduation.
This year the reunion incorporated the Annual General Meeting of Convocation which took place in the morning and allowed attendees to visit the new student residences before the meeting.
Celebrations continued over lunch at The Edge and alumni enjoyed a look around the modern student rooms situated at the Endcliffe Student Village as well as Halifax Hall, which is now a dedicated conference centre.
Following lunch, groups took tours around the campus and saw many of the new buildings, including the Information Commons the award winning library/study centre which was opened in 2007. The day ended in the University Arms with a refreshing drink and a farewell from the Alumni Team.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Keith Burnett hosted the evening´s activities, beginning with a sparkling champagne reception. Guests were wowed by Dan the magician and a delectable three-course meal was served in Firth Hall.
Guests were taken down memory lane with a speech from Professor Dave Hornby, a Biochemistry graduate from 1980 and now Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University.
The evening ended in the early hours of Sunday morning with the guests dancing the night away at the Students´ Union in "Pop Tarts Reunited". Pop Tarts Reunited saw current students, recent graduates and dinner guests come together to party to the sounds from the 70´s, 80´s and 90´s.
