New York - Saturday 21 May

Gary and Pamela Dickinson with Jim and Andrew GrantCharter Day 2016 got off to a flying start in New York this weekend, with a gathering of around 120 Sheffield alumni and friends.

The event on Saturday 21 May was the annual American Alumni Reunion and involved graduates from right across the United States.

Guests met for a drinks reception and dinner at the historic University Club on 5 th Avenue, and were welcomed by Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Keith Burnett, and 'University of Sheffield in America' Chairman and Nobel Laureate, Sir Richard Roberts.

Graduates and guests were also treated to a highly entertaining and touching speech from Sheffield graduate and best-selling author Jim Grant – better known as 'Jack Reacher' creator, Lee Child.

Jim studied Law at Sheffield in the 1970s, where he met his American wife, Jane, both of whom are great ambassadors and supporters of the University.

The next American alumni reunion will be in California - date provisionally set for May 20, 2017.
