Graduates' Presentation Ceremony Beijing 2014

The University of Sheffield was delighted to hold a special graduates' presentation ceremony in Beijing on Sunday 26 October 2014. There were over 200 graduates and guests in attendance on the evening. The special event took place at the Westin Beijing Chaoyang.

All graduates from China had the opportunity to attend the special presentation ceremony to celebrate their Beijing Graduation Ceremony 2014success with family and friends. Even if students had previously attended a graduation ceremony in Sheffield they were still welcome to attend the Beijing ceremony.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for family and friends of graduates who may have missed the UK ceremonies to join in the graduation celebrations.

There were 67 graduands who were presented with certificates on the evening and were individually congratulated by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Keith Burnett.

At the ceremony the University awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters to Madame Xu Lin. Madame Xu Lin is the Director General of Hanban – the Office of Chinese Language Council International – and the Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters.

Madame Xu Lin is a chemist and economist by training, who over the last decade has successfully overseen the development of the concept of the Confucius Institute across the globe.

VC and Madame XuThe Confucius Institute is a non-profit organisation affiliated with the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China to promote and teach Chinese language and culture around the world. The University of Sheffield was one of the first universities in the UK to host a Confucius Institute, and in 2010 the Sheffield Institute was named Confucius Institute of the Year.

Following the ceremony, graduates had the opportunity to have an official photograph and speak to the Vice-Chancellor and other senior management staff from the University.

The celebrations continued after the presentation, food and drinks were served and graduates enjoyed celebrating with family, friends, fellow graduates and University staff.
