University of Sheffield Alumni Gala Evening in Hong Kong - Sunday 19 October

Susanna Chiu and VCWe were delighted to welcome over 100 alumni and friends to the University of Sheffield Gala Evening in Hong Kong on Sunday 19 October. The evening took place in the stunning library and Atrium rooms in the Island Shangri-La Hotel on Hong Kong Island.

The evening provided the opportunity for alumni living and working in Hong Kong to network and reminisce about their time at Sheffield.

Representatives from the University were in attendance and staff had the pleasure of meeting many alumni in person.

Guests were addressed by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Keith Burnett. Sir Keith gave an update on the many University successes over the last year, discussed the importance of our International University and thanked alumni for their continued support.

Following the welcome from the Vice-Chancellor, Director of Alumni and Donor Relations, Mr. Miles Stevenson, presented the Professor Robert Boucher Distinguished Alumni Award to Ms Susanna Chiu (BA Economics). The award recognised Ms. Chiu’s professional achievements since graduating from Sheffield, in addition to acknowledging her dedication to the University of Sheffield and alumni relations in Hong Kong.

Ms Chiu gracefully accepted her Distinguished Alumni Medal and certificate introducing the newly appointed class representatives who will be leading a range of activities for the Hong Kong Alumni Group in the year ahead.

Following the presentations there was more time for alumni and staff to network and enjoy drinks and canapés.

The evening was a great success and a fantastic opportunity for the University to further strengthen it’s ties with graduates, friends and partners in Hong Kong.

The Professor Robert Boucher Distinguished Alumni Award

The Professor Robert Boucher Distinguished Alumni Award, for alumni of the University, is named in honour of the late former Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Boucher. Professor Boucher had a great interest in alumni relations and gave so much to the city of Sheffield over a period of 40 years.
