House of Lords Alumni Reception - 10 February 2015

Lord Krebs' Speech at the House of LordsOn Tuesday 10 February we were delighted to welcome over 200 alumni and guests to a University of Sheffield alumni reception in the House of Lords. The Rt Hon the Lord Krebs, a Sheffield honorary graduate, was our host for the evening. Lord Krebs received an honorary degree from the University in 2008, and is a renowned zoologist. He is also the son of famed Sheffield Nobel Prize winner Professor Sir Hans Krebs.

Alumni started the evening meeting in Westminster Hall, before being taken on a guided tour through the Houses of Parliament. The tour finished off in the Cholmondeley Room where the reception took place, looking out onto the bank of the Thames. At the reception, alumni enjoyed drinks and canap├ęs, as well as networking and sharing University tales in the splendid surroundings of Parliament.

Our Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Keith Burnett addressed guests on the night, welcomed them to the House of Lords, and thanked alumni for their continuing support. He also spoke of ways in which the University is prioritising supporting its students to gain professional experience, and how the University has have been leading on postgraduate scholarships.

Sir Keith then introduced Lord Krebs who recounted some of his memories of his time studying at Sheffield, as well as mentioning the importance of maintaining relationships between alumni and their Alma Matter.

As always the event was extremely popular, selling out in record time. A selection of pictures from the evening are included here but please see our Facebook post for more
