1954 and 1964 Reunion Luncheon
On Saturday 17 May 2014, the classes of 1954 and 1964 returned to Sheffield for the annual Reunion Luncheon to celebrate 50 and 60 years since they graduated from the University.
We were delighted to welcome over 160 alumni and friends back to campus for this very special event. Alumni and guests enjoyed welcome drinks in the Quad, Firth Court in the glorious sunshine, followed by sit-down Luncheon in Firth Hall.
The Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Keith Burnett welcomed alumni to the reunion and provided guests with an update on recent University developments and successes, including the accolade of being voted number one for student experience Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2014-2015.
A speech from alumnus and honorary graduate, The Rt Hon Lord Justice Maurice Kay, PC (1964, LLB Law, 1971 PhD Law and 1979, Hon LLD) followed. Lord Kay spoke about his time at Sheffield and reminisced about his experiences. He touched on the importance of giving back to the University and how fortunate earlier generations had been without the burden of student fees.
The speeches were then concluded with a presentation from Miles Stevenson, Director of Alumni & Donor Relations, who narrated archive video footage of the University from years gone by.
Following lunch, alumni took tours of the campus and Information Commons, allowing them to see the prevalent changes that have taken since they studied here between fifty and sixty years ago.
The day ended with refreshments in the Interval Café within the original Students’ Union Graves building. A prize draw saw one lucky guest, who travelled all the way from America to attend the event, win a copy of Steel City Scholars.
In 2015, the University will be hosting a reunion luncheon for the Classes of 1955 and 1965 on Saturday 20 June 2015 to celebrate their 50 and 60 years since graduating. Please see the reunion webpage for more information.
