Sheffield Alumni 47th Tenpin Bowling Reunion

On May 10th and 11th 2014, over fifty old members of the Sheffield Tenpin Bowling club met for their sixth Tenpin bowling reunionreunion in Sheffield. The club was formed in 1967, so this was the club's 47th anniversary. Bowlers came from as far as Australia, America, Canada, Indonesia and Europe to spend a weekend with friends and enjoy the atmosphere of known Sheffield haunts from the past.

The group met in the Broomhill Tavern on Saturday lunch (as this was the pub where the group used to pick the University Team in the 60’s and 70’s). This was followed by dinner in a memorable location. This year it was Halifax Hall, which in the 60s and 70s was a girls only hall. Now as a Boutique Hotel, the group occupied nineteen rooms and had an excellent meal with 48 friends.

The highlight of the weekend was playing tenpin bowling against current University students. On Sunday morning the group played amongst themselves and then selected the best twelve to play the current students in the afternoon.

After lunch, four three man teams played. The current students were in their new bowling shirts and alumni had on their original shirts. The current students bowled well, and the alumni lost 10-6 which was only the second time out of six reunions.

There was a fantastic turnout; fifty members attended, 47 years on. The group still manage to play and keep in contact with the University.

The next reunion will be in 2017, which will be the 50th anniversary celebration.
