American Alumni Reunion 2015
On Saturday 10 October, 90 alumni from across the United States gathered for the 2015 American Alumni Reunion. The event was held at the very elegant Loews Regency Hotel in San Francisco’s Financial District, and comprised a drinks reception followed by dinner.
The evening was a very special opportunity for alumni from across the country to reminisce about their time at Sheffield, and make new connections and new friends. It was a great pleasure to see graduates from the 1950s and 60s mixing easily with those who graduated just this year.
The first of these now annual events was held in New York in 2005, making this our 10th annual reunion in the United States. Several guests commented on how nice it was to recognise and reconnect with attendees from previous years.
After dinner, guests heard from Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Keith Burnett, who gave an inspiring update on the University’s points of strength and pride. Sir Keith also discussed the importance of our International network and thanked U.S. alumni and members of the 'University of Sheffield in America' Board, for their continued support.
To wrap up a lovely evening the University’s Director of Campaigns, Robert Dufton, assisted the Vice-Chancellor in awarding two Vice-Chancellor’s List certificates to alumni John Giles (BSc Physics 1955) and Paul Wood (BA Social Policy and Sociology 1984) in recognition of their long term support of the US Alumni Fund.
