• Awarded £800

The University of Sheffield Tennis Club applied to the Alumni Foundation in November 2014. The club has been a well established sporting organisation at the University since 1997, with a membership base of close to 100 students. Due to a lack of playing facilities at the University, most finances are spent on court hire and club maintenance costs.

With ever increasing numbers, the club was seeking funding for new equipment and to also help increase playing opportunities to ensure everyone who wanted to get involved could do. The Alumni Foundation awarded £800 which went towards new tennis balls for social tennis sessions and a pop-up banner for the Club to display at events. Both the Men’s and Women’s BUCS teams have also benefited from the funding and have received new match and training balls. This has been reflected by some great on court results with the Men’s 1st team through to the BUCS Trophy final and the Women’s 1st team finishing 3rd in Division 1 – some of the club’s highest achievements in many years.

The club has attracted 15 new members since November 2014 as they are now able to offer more attractive playing opportunities for all abilities.
