Your donations have made a huge difference
This year your generous support has once again made a huge difference. Your donations have helped provide talented students with access to a first-class education they might otherwise be unable to afford, whilst continuing to further enhance every aspect of life at the University for future generations of students.
Thanks to donations from alumni and friends of the University, 150 undergraduates and 36 postgraduates will have the chance to fulfil their potential at Sheffield through our scholarship programme.
Over £150,000 has been awarded to University departments for projects and 70 clubs and societies have received grants to help them with their sporting, musical, dramatic and cultural activities in the last 12 months.
Your donations have also funded a range of departmental grants, from a contribution towards the purchase of advanced Brain Computer Interfaces that allow users to control computers through the power of thought alone – opening up a host of exciting possibilities that will transform computer science teaching – to the urgent restoration of the Department of Music’s fortepiano, built by the Yorkshire piano maker Lawrence & Nash and an instrument which is in demand for the teaching of early music – an area in which Sheffield specialises.
Our Silver Arrows Circle now has over 1,100 members around the world – all giving regularly to support the next generation of students.
The Big Walk 2016 saw two teams walk more than 120 miles along the Trans Pennine Trail before joining friends and supporters for a further 18-mile walk into Sheffield together, raising money to provide scholarships for refugees and fellowships for at-risk academics at the University. So far, over £50,000 has been raised with 136 people getting involved in fundraising for this cause.
This year also saw the University receive its 18,000th donation since the Development, Alumni Relations and Events office opened.
We would like to say a big thank you to each and every donor whose support has helped us to carry out world-leading medical research, address inequality, improve standards for years to come and make a huge difference to the lives of students at our University.
