Give it a Go turns 15

Give it a Go, which was created at Sheffield Students' Union, reached a major birthday this academic year, turning 15 years old.

The nationally acclaimed activities programme officially launched in 2002 and has gone from strength-to-strength. On 5 June the Students’ Union organised an event that showcased and celebrated the programme. The event brought together staff and students from across the University, as well as local businesses who have aided in the delivery of Give it a Go events over the years.

The event celebrated and thanked those who had contributed to and run Give it a Go in that time, whilst also giving participants the opportunity to look back at old programmes and share stories and memories.

In the 15 years Give it a Go has been running it has organised over 7,600 activities, and had over 126,000 participants at its events. Clubs and societies who’ve run a session with Give it a Go have raised £129,000 for their student groups over the years. The programme has enabled thousands of friendships, new experiences and global exchanges over the last decade and a half, and the Students’ Union looks forward to the next 15!

The celebrations don’t just stop at the party - as the 16th year of the programme begins in the 2017/18 academic year there will be give-aways, stories and more memories to share! If you have any past experiences of the programme and you would like to share them with the Students’ Union, please email giveitago@sheffield.ac.uk
