Sheffield staff score for Sheffield Scanner
Last month eight teams of staff from across the University came together for a five-a-side football tournament in aid of the Sheffield Scanner, raising almost £700.
Departments from across the University entered teams into the competition, including the University’s central communications team, the Students’ Union, and even a side comprising members of the University’s senior leadership.
Through the day the sides played seven 20 minute matches to see who would come out on top. When all was done and dusted the Swiss All Stars emerged victorious, having won six of their games and drawing the seventh.
James Toner who played for the winning side Swiss All Stars explained after the tournament why he got involved:
“I got involved with the Sheffield Scanner appeal as I believe the addition of a new MRI-PET scanner will be a massive benefit, not only to the University and its research, but also because the vast majority of us are affected personally by the diseases that the scanner will help us to tackle.
“Added to this, the tournament itself was a great laugh! All of the games were played in the right spirit and we all enjoyed the whole event, even if I'm still struggling to walk a couple of days later!”
We’re grateful to everyone who took part in the competition, including all the players, supporters, and everyone who donated towards one of their friends or colleagues in support of the Sheffield Scanner. It is through every support’s help that we will be able to reach our £2 million goal and bring this exceptional piece of technology to Sheffield.
