University in The Sunday Times 100 best companies 2017
The Sunday Times has placed the University of Sheffield at number 25 in the 100 Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to Work For 2017 and we are the only university to be featured in this year’s ranking of Britain’s happiest and most motivated workforces.
We have also been awarded Best Companies 2-star accreditation status which represents outstanding levels of employee engagement.
There have been many proud moments this year, including being named as a Stonewall top 100 workplace for LGBT equality for four years running; the news that our AMRC Training Centre will teach McLaren apprentices to work in the new purpose-built production facility next to the AMRC; and our breakthrough in the fight against antibiotic resistance.

About the survey and our top scores
The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies is the annual ranking of the cream of Britain's happy and motivated workforces. The lists are widely acknowledged as the most extensive research into employee engagement carried out in this country.
Our ranking is awarded based on an independent survey which was sent to 2,310 staff members last summer.
University staff were asked 70 questions over eight areas: my manager, leadership, my company, personal growth, my team, giving something back, fair deal and wellbeing.
Our top scores were for giving something back (the extent to which we feel the University has a positive impact on society); fair deal (how happy we are with pay and benefits); and personal growth (how we feel about training and future prospects).
Our highest engagement score was for the point - 'I feel proud to work for this organisation'. This sense of pride is mirrored in our most recent staff survey results, where 94 per cent of respondents said they are proud to work for the University.
