Ten things you meant to do before graduation

For our first Top 10 list of 2016, and in honour of last week’s graduation, today we are looking the Top 10 things you meant to do before graduation.

Take a look at the list, see which you missed and which you managed, and let us know over in the comments on our Social Media pages.

Visit the Peak District

Visit the Peak District

Shockingly one of the biggest things students mention they always meant to do, but never did, was to actually make it out to enjoy the Peak District. With such an amazing place right on our doorstep anyone who never made it out there should feel bad.

Eat out on London Road

A bit closer to home, but still out of the way enough for students to miss, is London Road. One of the best places to go out for dinner, the vast range of restaurants is just too far away from many students living in Crookes.

See a Sheffield football match

Sheffield is full of rivalries, and bigger than even that of varsity is the Blades versus the Owls. Yet even with the constant reminders students are still able to miss out on going down to Hillsborough or Bramall Lane to see either of our local football teams.

Visit the Crucible

Another commonly missed venue is the world famous Crucible. Home to plays by Shakespeare, to those written by students and alumni (as well as the World Snooker Championships), many a student has forgotten to pay the venue a visit.

Visit Kelham Island

Another of Sheffield cultural centres, just far enough out of reach to be missed by students, is Kelham Island. Whether you want to see the industrial museum, or visit many of the outstanding pubs, it’s definitely worth the effort to make the trek down there.

Ride the Paternoster all the way round

Ride the Paternoster all the way round

Back on campus loads of you love the Paternoster, but one of the things many of you meant to do was to ride it all the way round, through the workings at the top and bottom. Of course we cannot condone such student behaviour…

Sneak into a lecture from another course

And when you’re done riding around the Arts Tower you can try sneaking into a lecture from a different course. It’s a great way of broadening your horizons and finding more about your friends’ courses.

While the Peak District is one of the best places for walks and views the Arts Tower also offers a challenge. Climbing all the way up to floor 19 results in spectacular views over the city, which many students (aside from architects) miss out on.

Take part in Bummit

Most of these activities revolve around Sheffield, but one graduation regret is not getting involved in RAG’s charity hitch-hike - Bummit. Lots of students regret not taking part in the challenge to raise money, racing across Europe.

Try Henderson's Relish

But last, and by no means least, one thing missed (often due to preconceived biases) is not trying Sheffield’s beloved Henderson’s Relish, the spicy sauce that perks up any dish.
