Medics Class of 1977 Reunion
Medics from the class of 1977 gathered in Sheffield to celebrate their 35th anniversary. Below is a write-up of the reunion which has been provided by Jo Dudley and Roger Nunn.
On the weekend of 26/27th October 2012, 42 graduates and their partners, of the 120 medics who had graduated from Sheffield's old Royal Infirmary and Royal Hospital in 1977 swapped nostalgia at their 35th Anniversary Reunion dinner held in Firth Hall (where we'd sat our Finals all those years before).
We have been doing this in Sheffield every five years since graduation. Eight of our number had not travelled far still working in and around Sheffield, however three of the group had travelled from across the pond from North America for the occasion – John Rowlands an ENT Consultant in Seattle who had made the reunion 10 year before too; Rhod Evans an adolescent psychiatrist from Toronto making his first reunion and Ian Wood a now retired Sheffield GP living in Ohio, coming back home for the weekend. Our regular overseas visitor Andy Dunn a GP in Perth Australia did not make this years reunion.
Some of us met together for a Friday beer or three in the Ranmoor Inn near Broomhill. Another small group had lunch in The Lady Bower Inn on Saturday lunchtime, followed by an afternoon reminiscing and walking above the reservoir.
In the evening we (well most) donned black tie for a final pre-retirement reunion (some of our number already retired) starting with a drinks reception in the elegant foyer of Western Bank, followed by a splendid dinner provided by the University caterers in oak-panelled Firth Hall with bopping until late to Katy Freeway, a Country Rock Band led by Colin Bradshaw one of our august number and fronted by his wife Celia - a great weekend.
Roll On our 40th in 2017!
