House of Lords Alumni Reception - Wednesday 10 October
University of Sheffield alumni and friends enjoyed a drinks reception at the prestigious House of Lords venue on the evening of Wednesday 10 October. This is the fourth time we have held the event and the evening was once again kindly hosted by The Rt Hon the Lord Hattersley. He was deputy leader of the Labour Party from 1983 to 1992 and received an honorary degree from the University of Sheffield in 1998.
Over 200 guests enjoyed a tour of the Houses of Parliament which included a visit to the House of Commons and Westminster Palace. A drinks' reception was then held in the Cholmondeley Room overlooking the River Thames.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Keith Burnett, FRS, welcomed the guests to the House of Lords and thanked alumni for their continuing support. Lord Hattersley then gave a short speech about this affection for the University of Sheffield and gave encouraging words about supporting the University.
Guests were lucky enough to have a fantastic view from the Terrace of a firework display that happened in the near vicinity – the perfect timing added a little something extra to a lovely evening.
The event was once again very popular, with 200 guests attending and a reserve list of over 300 people. We are delighted that Lord Hattersley will be hosting another event at the House of Lords next year.
