1953 and 1963 Reunion Luncheon
On Saturday 22 June 2013, the classes of 1953 and 1963 returned to Sheffield for the annual Reunion Luncheon to celebrate 50 and 60 years since they graduated from the University.
We were delighted to welcome over 170 alumni and friends back to campus for this very special event. Alumni and guests enjoyed welcome drinks in Firth Court followed by sit-down Luncheon in Firth Hall.
The Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Keith Burnett welcomed alumni to the reunion and provided guests with an update on recent University developments and successes. A speech from alumnus and honorary graduate, Sir Hans Kornberg (1949, BSc Chemistry, 1953, PhD Biochemistry and 1979, Hon DSc) followed. Sir Hans spoke about his time at Sheffield and subsequent career. He shared stories and reminisced about his experience.
The speeches were then succeeded with a presentation from Miles Stevenson, Director of Alumni & Donor Relations, who narrated archive video footage of the University from years gone by.
Following lunch, alumni were invited to take tours of the campus and Information Commons, allowing them to see the prevalent changes that have taken place on the campus since they studied here between fifty and sixty years ago. Thankfully the weather brightened up which meant that alumni were not put off from going on the tours!
The day ended with refreshments in the Interval Café within the original Students’ Union Graves building. A prize draw saw one lucky guest win a selection of University goodies, before a final farewell from the alumni team.
