Thank You Challenge

Alumni (graduates) support current students in a number of different ways; from donations to clubs and societies through the Alumni Foundation to scholarships and volunteering their time to mentor students and give careers advice.

Help say thank you to alumni by joining in with our Alumni Thank You Challenge!

Anyone can join in with the thanking - tweet a photo or message of thanks to @SheffieldAlumni using #ThankYouSheffieldAlumni

As part of an official student group, club or society you could also be in with the chance of winning £500 towards your activity! Submit a photo that says 'thank you' in a creative way and showcases what your group does.

The competition will run in the first quarter of the year, and we will be getting in contact with clubs and societies before this to give you time to think and prepare your entry. Once all the entries have been submitted a final four are shortlisted, and the winner is decided by a public vote via social media.

How to enter:

To be in with a chance of winning, email with the subject line 'Alumni Thank You Challenge - [group name]' before Friday 30 March including:

  • Your name
  • Your group/club/society name
  • Photograph (high quality) that says 'thank you' in a creative way
  • A 200 word proposal on what would spend the £500 on

For more information and advice on the proposal take a look at the terms and conditions below:

Competition Terms and Conditions

Competition entrants are required to write a 200 word proposal on what they would spend the prize grant money on. This proposal as well as the photograph will be considered when shortlisting the top four entries to compete in the Facebook competition. The final four entries will be contacted with further details before the Facebook competition opens.

Competition Format

Friday 17 February - Competition open for entries
Friday 30 March - Closing date for entries

Entries must be in line with the following guidelines:

  • The entry must be on behalf of a student group, club or society - not from an individual. This group does not have to have directly received a grant from alumni in the past to enter.
  • Photos must be suitable to be shared on social media and with alumni donors.
  • Photos must not have been submitted to a previous Thank You Challenge.
  • The prize grant must be spent on the student group's activity.
  • Good proposals will benefit students in the long term and will have a wide reaching impact (where possible on students, the wider university or local community). For example, funding for equipment, start-up costs or club development.
  • Proposals will not be successful if they are for long-term or on-going funding, socials, travel, accommodation or food, funding for events or projects that already happened or projects that are the responsibility of the University centrally.
