Speed Networking: Economics

14th October 2014

Speed Networking events allow students to talk to alumni from a variety of industries and sectors to find out more about the career options open to them. The event also aims to boost the confidence of students and develop their networking and communication skills.

Alumni involvement

Alumni spoke to students in small groups for 10 minutes at a time before rotating to the next group of studnets. Alumni discussed their own career paths and provided advice to students. The “speed networking” was followed by informal networking, allowing students more time to ask additional questions.

32 students and 6 alumni attended. Students found out more about their options post-graduation and gained valuable experience of networking in a friendly environment.

Students said:

“The best thing about the event was its relaxed nature. I feel a lot more comfortable networking now.”

“I received personal advice and was able to ask career-specific questions that I otherwise would not have been able to ask.”

“It was a really enjoyable experience, and the students were very enthusiastic and well-prepared. It was great to be able to pass advice on to students to help them make more informed career choices.”
