Speed Networking: Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering

23rd October 2014

Speed Networking events allow students to talk to alumni from a variety of industries and sectors to find out more about the career options open to them. The event also aims to boost the confidence of students and develop their networking and communication skills.

Alumni Involvement

Alumni spoke to students in small groups for 10 minutes at a time before rotating to the next group of studnets. Alumni discussed their own career paths and provided advice to students. The “speed networking” was followed by informal networking, allowing students more time to ask additional questions.

Students said:

“Hearing your advice and experiences has inspired me pursue my career ambitions.”

“Thank you for taking the time to talk to us. It is useful to have an insight into what employers are looking for.”

Results

25 students and 10 alumni attended. Students found out more about their options post-graduation and gained valuable experience of networking in a friendly environment.

“I found the event was well organised and I found it very rewarding to give advice to the students. I was pleasantly surprised at how engaged the students were, especially with the large numbers of first years. I would definitely recommend other alumni to get involved!”
