Sheffield Connections - Rick Turner

Sheffield Connections offers students, including those from a widening participation background, the chance to meet inspirational and successful alumni. A small group of students meet the graduate in an informal, relaxed setting over tea and cake. Students are then able to ask questions about the graduate’s time at Sheffield and career, as well as discussing their own career options or University choices.

Alumni Involvement

Rick Turner, BSc Psychology 1979, Senior Scientific Director of Clinical Communications at Quintiles volunteered his time to speak to students and offered them valuable, personal advice on editing in the area of scientific research, as well as sharing information about his own career path and interests.

The Results

Students found out more about how to apply a science degree to the world of work, whilst increasing their confidence of networking in a friendly environment. The meeting with Rick also gave the students the opportunity to seek advice on their own career choices. Rick was kind enough to follow up with the students via email after the event and has since continued to provide careers support.
