Researcher Professional Development: v i s t a Seminars

2014/2015 Academic Year

The v i s t a seminar series raises awareness of post-PhD careers and professions beyond academia. It also provides networking opportunities for our research staff and students and allows them to gain insider information from alumni over 16 lunchtime events covering career themes that span all research discipline areas.

Alumni and Friend Involvement

Volunteers present their career path, a job description and key decision points for 10 minutes and then engage participants in an open Q&A to help them gain honest, first-hand insight into the realities of careers outside academia.

36 alumni have discussed their own career paths and provided advice to help researchers understand the skills, knowledge or experiences required to move into a new career area. Total time donated to v i s t a seminars is 36 hours.

Since summer 2014, 506 researchers have attended a v i s t a seminar and several have moved on to new career paths inspired by the learning from the seminars.
