Information for Current Postgraduates

Postgraduate research students in APS form a large and vital part of our research community. Support and academic responsibility for postgraduate matters in the Department is the responsibility of the Graduate Committee, which comprises both staff and postgraduate representatives. Please make use of your GC reps to raise issues and have your input to our postgraduate provision.

University-level information for Postgraduates, dealing with everything from funding and study space to training needs and thesis submission information, can be found on the Research and Innovation Services web pages. The University of Sheffield Student Union also has a specific group to provide support representation of postgraduates across the University.

Are you a postdoc or early career researcher in APS?  Are you interested in getting in touch with other APS postdocs, attending socials (e.g. lunches, quizzes, pub evenings) and training events? Here's how...

The APS Postdoc Society

The APS Postdoc Society was founded in 2011 with the following aims:

  • to facilitate social interactions between postdocs by organising social events
  • to facilitate training and career development for postdocs
  • to give postdocs a stronger voice within APS and the University of Sheffield.

All postdocs and early career researchers currently working in APS are automatically members of the Society. Active members of the society form a committee that organises and informs about events. For more information:
