Field courses: 2014

Scroll through the slideshows to see pictures from our 2014 field courses, and find out what some of our students had to say about their field course experiences.

Tropical Rainforest: Borneo

Location: Danum Valley Field Centre, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo

Andrew Jones, MBiolsci Biology
"It was an opportunity to experience a totally different environment and see lots of different animals and plants, which I would otherwise not have been able to see. The highlight was definitely seeing a wild male orang-utan crossing the bridge right in front of us."

James Whitehead, BSc Biology
"The Borneo field course was a real eye-opener to what field work is really like: hard work but rewarding."

Marine ecology: Wales

Location: A campsite by the shore in Anglesey

The Arctic Circle: Sweden

Location: Abisko Research Station in sub-arctic Sweden

Jamie Andrews, MBiolSci Biology
"It was one of the best experiences of my degree. I learned about the issues currently facing the Arctic, as well as making new friends and unforgettable memories together with them."

Meryl Varty, MBiolSci Zoology
"It was great: I made new friends and the work wasn't as intense as I'd imagined, but it was still hard work. We got a lot of time to ourselves as well. I learnt a lot from all of the data collecting, presentations and the final big project we carried out, which has really prepared me for the level three project. I feel like I really developed my scientific skills. Having the chance either side of the course to travel was also great."
