Apprenticeship Provision

The Partnerships Quality Team supports departments and faculties with the approval, quality assurance and academic governance of apprenticeship provision. The Team works with AMRC-TC on quality and compliance of apprenticeships taking into account key requirements of external agencies, for example OFSTED. Quality oversight of apprenticeship programmes provision is provided by the Apprenticeship Education Oversight Group (AEOG)

An apprenticeship is a paid job with training, leading to a qualification with employers covering the cost of tuition fees. Through the apprenticeship, apprentices will gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need for their immediate job and future career. At least 20% of the apprentice's time is allocated for off-the-job learning (training).

The University offers a range of Advanced (NQF Level 3), Higher (Foundation Degree) and Degree apprenticeships and apprenticeship-related programmes in partnership with national and local employers. At present, the following departments offer apprenticeship programmes:

  • Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre - Training Centre
  • Management School
  • Nursing and Midwifery (Health Sciences School)
  • Sociological Studies

Approval of new apprenticeships

A programme of study to be provided as part of an apprenticeship should be designed to meet employer needs and mapped against the relevant apprenticeship standard. New apprenticeship programmes are developed and approved under the University's programme approval process. Additional approvals of apprenticeship programmes are required,  including approval by the University Executive Board.
