This award is given to a BABAO member who is distinguished by their inspirational role as a mentor in the field. Pia Nystrom has a long career in bioanthropology with a specialism in primatology and research interests in diet, health and well-being in past human populations, growth and development in humans and non-human primates and the use of primate behavior as models for hominins.

Pia has been a core member of the Human Osteology and Palaeoanthropology programmes in the Department of Archaeology at Sheffield. In the process, she has worked closely with countless students and colleagues to develop her field. She has helped many of our graduates find careers in a wide variety of osteoarchaeology related career pathways.

Pia has made an amazing contribution to our field. General agreement among BABAO members is that we wouldn’t be here without her support!
