Profile

Sanja trained as an archaeologist in Australia and Europe. She obtained a BA (Hons) in Classical Archaeology from the University of Sydney (Australia), an MA in Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies from Deakin University (Australia), an MA in Research Methods for Archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology UCL, and a PhD in Archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology UCL. She researches the effects of imperialism on sexuality and gender in the Roman world, Roman visual culture, and the dynamics of cultural change in Roman Greece. She is also interested in social theory in archaeology with particular focus on New Materialism and Queer theory. Between 2018 and 2022 Sanja conducted her research in Greece where she was associated with the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens. She has worked on excavation and survey projects in Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Serbia, the UK, and Australia. 

Sanja joined the Department of Archaeology at the University of Sheffield in 2022.
