Planning the earlier churchyard wall at Brodsworth

The Brodsworth Community Archaeology Project warmly welcomes local residents and offers you the opportunity to join in with the archaeological fieldwork. This year the Project will run from Monday 27th July until Friday 4th September and you can join the project for a single day or for many days. We do need to limit the number of people working on any one day so you will need to fill in the application form (details below).

The Project is based in the grounds of Hickleton Hall (including Hickleton Church Hall) which is where we meet up ready to start work at 9 a.m. each morning (the project runs 7 days a week – including bank holidays).

This Project is a very large landscape archaeology project and so there is a wide range of activities which ensures that whatever your age, fitness and background we hope to be able to find suitable activities for all participants. If you are unsure about what the work entails then you can always pop in anytime and see what we are doing and judge for yourself what might be suitable/interesting for you.

We make no charge for local participants who make their own way to the base each day. However in order to ensure organised participation we do require everyone to become members of the Brodsworth Community Archaeology Group. This is very simple and only costs £3 per year. Details can be found on the Brodsworth Community Archaeology Group webpage which you can find from the links on this page.

The Project will be operating a campsite between 2nd August and the 4th September and it is possible to come and stay on the campsite rather than travelling in each day. There is a charge for this which includes camping fee and food. Details of this can be obtained by contacting the Project by email (brodswortharchaeology@sheffield.ac.uk) or by telephoning Colin Merrony on 0114 2222929 or by calling in once we have started at the end of July.
