Professor Amaka Offiah
About me: I am a Professor of Paediatric Musculoskeletal Imaging in the Department of Oncology and Metabolism and a Consultant Paediatric Radiologist at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. My research interests include optimising existing and developing novel methods of imaging children’s bones and muscles. I am committed to raising awareness and contributing to the elimination of overt and covert discrimination for any reason, but (in my role as Chair of the BAME Staff Network), particularly on the grounds of black, Asian and minority ethnic origin.

About me: I have extensive experience of managing communications projects in the higher education sector. I am an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Since joining the Committee in September 2018 I have contributed by producing a communications strategy focusing on how to grow our network, increase attendance and engagement at events and raise the profile of the network at a University level. It has been a rewarding experience being part of a dynamic group that supports the University in achieving its equality and diversity goals.

About me: I am a Facilities Manager in the School of Architecture. In my role I cover health & safety, facilities management, and managing a technical team.
As the joint Events Officer of the BAME Staff Network, I will be responsible for organising events for the Network, including inviting guest speakers and collaborate with the BME Student Committee on events.

About me: Since early 2020 I have been working as the Student Engagement and Development Manager in Residence Life. Prior to this I worked for over five years as a Project Manager on various projects. These projects included the Postgraduate Support Scheme and the Equivalent Qualifications project. Before working at the University I worked at Sheffield City Council, coordinating the work of European partners on an EU funded green infrastructure project. I am pleased that the University now has a BAME Staff Network.
As a Joint Events Officer for the BAME Staff Network, I am looking forward to bringing interesting and relevant events to the University.
Dr. Aarti Iyer
About me: I am a Reader in Social Psychology in the Department of Psychology. My research focuses on understanding responses to inequality and injustice on the part of individuals (e.g., political attitudes and political behaviour) and institutions (e.g., affirmative action and diversity management programmes). I teach research methods and statistics in the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
As the Outreach & Social Officer of the BAME Staff Network, I coordinate efforts to recruit new members, and organise events for existing members.

About me: I am an immigration adviser in the International Student Support team. My primary role is to provide specialist immigration advice to international students studying with a student visa in the UK. I also have a strong interest in working with international students in non-immigration areas and providing support to enhance their international student experience.
As the Membership Officer of the BAME Staff Network, I coordinate the recruitment of new members and organise events for network members.

Dr. Parveen Azam Ali
About me: I work as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. My research explores the issue of Gender based violence including domestic violence. I am also interested in exploring health inequalities especially those related to gender and ethnicity. I am the Programme Director of Masters in Advanced Nursing Studies, where I also chair the Research Ethics Committee.
As BME Membership Officer, I aim to work with students and student committees to identify issues affecting them to see how BAME network can help deal with such issues.

Dr. Tony Williams
About me: I am the Academic Director of the Doctor of Educational and Child Psychology. This is a three year full-time course approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), accredited by the British Psychological Society and recognised by the Department for Education as a course of professional training in Educational Psychology.
As a BAME Development Officer I am available to provide confidential consultative support for our Network members and provide information of how to access appropriate support services.
About me: I am a graduate of this University and a local to Sheffield. I currently work as an Organisation Development Advisor within the department of Human Resources.
I aim to create professional and engaging communication pieces to progress the work of the BAME Staff Network.

About me: I am a Student Support Officer within the Central Welfare and Guidance team in Student Support Services, working on intervention and prevention campaigns/initiatives. At present I lead the work on anti-racism training for students in the University.
Alongside Nima, I aim to develop, support and promote the BAME Staff Network, and effectively build and maintain positive professional relationships with members of the University.
