2015 Picturing Parkinson's Competition

Huge congratulations to Bateson Centre PhD student Sarah Brown, runner-up in the 2015 Picturing Parkinson's Competition with her striking image Fire in the forest.

A grey placeholder image with a cross through the middle.

The competition is held in memory of scientist Dr Jonathan Stevens, who had Parkinson's and passed away at the age of 34 in December 2013.

The image shows a section of a Zebrafish brain where the brain cells have been stained green. Zebrafish are used to study a protein in Parkinson’s called alpha-synuclein (coloured red). Using these fish, we can see how the alpha-synuclein protein may affect the survival of brain cells.
