Equality and diversity

The Department of Biomedical Science prides itself as a rich and inclusive working environment where all staff feel valued, rewarded and able to achieve their full potential. We have an Equality and Diversity Committee that meets quarterly to discuss all issues concerning diversity in the department.

  • To ensure that appropriate consideration is made of equality and diversity issues in all committees and official departmental meetings.
  • To oversee progress of the department for Athena SWAN awards including making applications as required.
  • To assess progression of students and staff in terms of gender, ethnicity and other diversity criteria.

Athena SWAN Bronze AwardWomen in Biomedical Science

We are very pleased to announce that the Department has been awarded the Athena SWAN Bronze Award

Biomedical Science is a family-friendly department: many of our academic and administrative staff have children, and so are sensitive to the demands of combining a career and family. We are supported by the University of Sheffield Bronze Award. The University has an active women’s network that promotes initiatives and activities to promote women presence in the university. Equality and diversity in our department is linked to this network and actively diffuse the network initiatives via the equality and diversity bulletin and website.
