Independent Fellowships in Biology

The Department of Biomedical Science is renowned for cutting edge research related to cell and developmental biology, neuroscience, cancer, stem cells and animal models of disease. We are committed to the training of the next generation of researchers and are seeking outstanding candidates wishing to launch their independent research careers by successful applications for independent research fellowships (IRFs) to funding agencies including BBSRC, CRUK, MRC, The Wellcome Trust and The Royal Society.

Fifty percent of current Principal Investigators within the department are current or former IRFs, and we have an excellent record of converting Fellowships into permanent academic positions.

We invite outstanding researchers who either hold, or intend to apply for, an Independent Fellowship to visit and discuss their future career paths. After the visit, we will mentor and assist selected applicants in submitting their Fellowship applications.

Applicants will join a dynamic research environment with excellent research infrastructure and will share the same status as existing academic staff. Proposals will be considered in any aspect of biological research related to work already ongoing in the department with the potential to generate novel insights into fundamental problems.
