Sheffield Innovation Programme
Sheffield Innovation Programme is a regional initiative, jointly delivered between the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, which aims to stimulate business growth and promote the development of long-term relationships with SMEs by providing access to a broad range of academic expertise and university facilities.
The support is in the form of bespoke research and innovation based consultancy, workshops and other events. The universities will each provide a minimum of 12 hours of contact time to each company. The programme is part financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and will run until 31st July 2019.
The University of Sheffield's primary areas of expertise are centred on the Faculty of Engineering which includes a diverse range of capabilities from materials analysis, robotics and automation, civil engineering, computer science and control systems, smart city infrastructure and vibrational mechanics testing and analysis. Furthermore, through the Sheffield Innovation Programme, the University is able to provide our full range of expertise to companies ranging from polymer science right through to the business management.
Of particular focus for the University of Sheffield is providing companies access to:
- The Royce Translational Centre - encouraging manufacturing companies to adopt next generation technology in the manufacturing of advanced engineering products and components: the technology of producing and processing metal powders.
- The Dynamics Laboratory for Verification and Validation (LVV) - which will support and accelerate the design of innovative engineering structures, for example planes and civil structures such as bridges, by using computer models, to predict the product performance prior to build in order to reduce costs, shorten the time to market, improve safety, increase energy efficiency, and improve longevity.
- The Integrated Civil and Infrastructure Research Centre - which will provide an industry facing innovation hub that leverages our regional innovation capacity in advanced manufacturing and engineering to solve national civil engineering and infrastructure challenges.
Who can get involved?
Eligible businesses in the Sheffield City Region, particularly SMEs, can either get involved via bespoke consultancy projects or through industry focused workshops.
