About the project

Transforming our public spaces map

The University is planning for a brighter future.

We're working with Sheffield City Council to transform public spaces around the city campus. There'll be new and improved crossings on Western Bank and Upper Hanover Street, pedestrianisation of a number of streets, new cycle routes, lots more trees and plants and some great integrated public art.

Boosting the quality of our physical assets and the surrounding areas is a huge part of this project. Through the work we will establish stronger links within the city and make a positive impact in developing a sustainable environment.

Most of the work will be taking place from February to Autumn 2016. There are some other University-only projects – such as improvements to the concourse and the transformation of the Arts Tower frontage into a public park – which will be completed in the following year.

The transforming our public spaces project is part of our Campus Masterplan.
