Public transport

The University is well served by public transport, with Supertram and several bus routes close by, and the Midland Station around 20 minutes' walk away along the Gold Route.

In preparation for pedestrianisation of Leavygreave Road (east) as part of the proposed walking/cycling spine, it is planned to reroute the 51 and 52 buses from Western Bank/Mappin Street to travel down Glossop Road via Clarkson Street and Durham Road. The 95 bus route will use Mappin Street, which will be improved under the Masterplan.

The University has a long standing policy to encourage walking, cycling and public transport rather than private cars, where possible. One of our aims under the Masterplan is to remove surface level parking from the campus – on Hounsfield Road and the Arts Tower court, for example.

Some of the spaces lost through this will be replaced through the development of a multi-storey car park on Durham Road, which will also provide essential parking for the Sheffield Children's Hospital visitors.
