Lloyds Scholars Programme

If you would like to benefit from a package of financial bursaries of over £11,000, a dedicated mentor, guaranteed paid summer internships, and employability skills support whilst at University then you should apply to be a Lloyds Scholar.

The Lloyds Scholars Programme is an award-winning programme which gives students from lower-income households access to all of the above support. Whilst you are a Lloyds Scholars you will commit to 100 hours volunteering in each year of your studies. You will also undertake a minimum of 1 internship with Lloyds Bank as well as championing the scheme to future applicants.

I’m not interested in banking, does that matter?

You don’t have to be interested in working for a bank to become a Lloyds Scholars. The programme is open to students from most degree backgrounds. At the University of Sheffield, we have students on the programme studying Biology, Law, Computer Science, Maths, Journalism, Business Management, English, and much more.

If you do well in your internships, you could end up with an offer of a graduate role in Lloyds Bank but if you don’t want to do that you can still be a Lloyds Scholar. Lloyds will support you throughout your three or four years and into whatever career you want to do once you graduate so don’t let the idea of banking put you off.

thumbs up

That sounds great. How do I know if I’m eligible?

You are eligible to become a Lloyds Scholar if you:

  • have accepted an offer of a place at the University of Sheffield starting in September
  • have a household income of under £25,000
  • are a UK resident or an EU national currently residing in the UK

If you don’t meet these criteria there is a range of other funding offered by the University that you could be eligible to apply for. Find out more on our funding pages.

I meet the criteria. What do I need to do to apply?

Applications for the Lloyds Scholars Programme will open in May (date TBC). Places are filled on a first come first serve basis, so you will need to apply as soon as possible to be in with your chance to be part of this award winning programme.

You can register an interest in the Programme now via the Lloyds Scholars website to receive an update when the applications open. You can also register an interest on our online form and our Lloyds Scholars Programme Coordinator, Luke, will be in touch when it opens as well as being able to send you application tips throughout the process.

The application process is tough but the University are here to help throughout. We’ve created an information guide which talks you through each section of the assessment process and links to helpful tips and advice on preparing for these.

If you have any further questions then just get in touch with Luke at l.featherstone@sheffield.ac.uk and he’ll be able to answer any of your queries.
