Mark Hawley has worked, and carried out research, in the field of electronic assistive technology for people with disabilities for over 10 years. He has published widely on this and other subjects and has presented at numerous national and international meetings. He is Consultant Clinical Scientist at Barnsley Hospital where he is Director of Research and Development and Head of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering. He leads a service, which provides electronic assistive technology to people with disabilities in South Yorkshire.
He was Chair of the Trent Rehabilitation Advisory Group from 1997 to 2000, which advised NHS Executive Trent on rehabilitation-related matters and has been Chair of the Institute for Physics and Engineering and Medicine's special interest group in Rehabilitation. He is a member of the Foresight Panel (Yorkshire) on Ageing. He is involved in several EU funded projects on electronic assistive technology and has many international links. He is currently leading several projects to develop and evaluate technology for disabled and older people.
