We are International

Here in the Department you'll be part of a diverse global community. Our courses attract students from around the world, making us a cultural, friendly and vibrant place to study. Plus nearly half of our academic staff are from overseas, giving our course content international relevance. Moving to the UK to study can seem daunting, but we'll support you every step of the way.

All of our degrees are open to international students, and our international graduates go on to excel in their career of choice. Employers around the world know that a degree from Sheffield is a mark of quality, with recent graduates going on to work in companies such as Petronas, Unilever, SABIC, ExxonMobil and Shell.

Our degrees are accredited by the IChemE, the international professional body for chemical engineers.  Our IChemE accreditation demonstrates that yoo'll be on a programme that is academically sound and industrially relevant, certifying that you'll be provided with the highest standard of chemical engineering education, enabling you to slot straight into industry or further study.

Your lectures will be in the new £80 million state of the art facilities 'The Diamond', a take a tour of the building to the right. You'll also have access to our Pilot Plant (currently under commission), this laboratory space will be filled with pilot-scale process equipment and operated from a control room fitted with industry-standard software, allowing you to gain practical experience in an environment similar to that of industry. In particular, you will operate processes widely employed in the energy and petrochemicals, pharmaceutical and biochemical industries.

Why choose Sheffield?

Sheffield is a friendly, safe and culturally diverse city, located in the heart of the UK with hourly train links to London and Manchester Airport. With two universities, there is a large student population here, and there are many international students. Ten minutes from the Peak District National Park, Sheffield offers a balance between city living, full of restaurants, bars, cafes and entertainment, and beautiful countryside. The cost of living is 10% lower than in other major cities in the UK, and 25% lower than in London. Our students' union is consistently recognised as the best in the country. We've been voted number one for the past eight years in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey.
