Profile

My group’s research interest is in sustainable biomanufacturing. Leveraging the technologies in synthetic biology and our experience in strain engineering, my team creates fit-for-purpose microorganisms that use renewable feedstock in sustainable industrial bioprocesses. One of our focuses is on sustainable production of bioplastic, especially polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). As part of my fellowship research program, I collaborate with The National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Thailand to develop a sustainable bioprocess for conversion of agricultural wastes to biodegradable plastics (PHA).

Research Topics

  • Sustainable biomanufacturing
  • Bioplastic (polyhydroxyalkanoate) production
  • Strain engineering & adaptive laboratory evolution
  • Protein engineering
  • Biocatalysis
  • P450 enzymes
