Why did you decide to study you PhD with us here at CBE?

Great assistance from the department from the very beginning of my correspondence with them. The postgraduate admissions team was really helpful during the admission process.

What was your research?

My research was about technology development for detoxification of carcinogenic compounds contained in the leftover biomass from biodiesel industry. The detoxified product is expected to be used for feedstock or fertiliser. It was a fantastic atmosphere to study in with many other researchers working on a diverse range of projects.

Did you receive good support from your supervisor?

Yes. The support from supervisors was so excellent. They helped me a lot, I can't thank them enough. It was incredibly valuable to have them there for me throughout the entirety of my studies.

I can honestly say I did not have any problems during the four years of my time living in Sheffield.

How was it coming to the UK as an international student?

It was an amazing experience coming to the UK as an international student. Sheffield is a great city to study in, it has lots of amenities, is very welcoming and the people are really friendly. There's some fantastic countryside on the outskirts of the city too. I can honestly say I did not have any problems during the four years of my time living in Sheffield.

What did you do after your time with the department?

I'm absolutely thrilled that I'm now a lecturer in the University of Diponegoro back home in Indonesia. Even though I've left the department it doesnt mean that my realationship with them will stop. I am looking forward to future collaborations with the department especially with my new role.
