Scholarships are available to help fund your study and enhance your learning experience.

Department scholarships for undergraduates

These schemes are specific to the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering or Faculty of Engineering.

You do not have to apply for these scholarships separately or before your course starts. If you are eligble the department will automatically allocate them to you at once you start studying with us.

With the exception of the Harley Scholarship, you may be awarded a maximum of one department scholarship.


Harley Scholarships

These scholarships are worth up to £9,000 each and are for current undergraduate students.

Eligibility

You must:

  • Be a currently registered as undergraduate in CBE.
  • Intend to undertake some form of study or work experience in areas such as fuel technology or environmental science.
  • Include an element of travelling fieldwork or study abroad.

This scholarship is allocated by the department depending on merit.


Engineering Excellence Scholarships 

These scholarships are worth between £1,000 - £3,000 each and are for students intending to commence their studies in 2019-20.

Eligibility

You must:

  • Make the University of Sheffield your firm choice in your UCAS application.
  • Be classed as an international student for tuition fee purposes.
  • Attain at least A level grades of A*AA or equivalent.

The amount you recieve depends on your A level results. You will be awarded:

  • £1000 for A*AA.
  • £2000 for A*A*A.
  • £3000 for A*A*A*.

Scholarships are awarded after registration. You will subsequently be awarded a further £1,000 each academic year, subject to maintaining a 69.5% overall average mark in the preceding academic year.


Meredith Thring Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is worth £4,500 and is for students intending to commence their studies in 2019-20.

Eligibility

You must:

  • Be classed as a Home/EU student for tuition fee purposes.
  • Be at least one of the following:
    • a mature student
    • a care leaver
    • the first in your family to attend university.
  • Come from a low-scoring POLAR4 quintile (see below).
  • Make the University of Sheffield your firm choice in your UCAS application.

This scholarship is awarded to the first year student, meeting the above criteria, who achieves the highest number of UCAS points across their highest-scoring three A levels (or equivalent) including pre-requisite subjects.


Harry Brearley Achievement Scholarships

These scholarships are worth up to £1,500 each and are for students intending to commence their studies in 2019-20.

Eligibility

You must:

  • Be classed as a Home/EU student for tuition fee purposes.
  • Be at least one of the following:
    • a mature student.
    • a care leaver.
    • the first in your family to attend university.
  • Achieve AAA at A level, or equivalent.
  • Come from a low-scoring POLAR4 quintile (see below).
  • Make the University of Sheffield your firm choice in your UCAS application.

Scholarships are awarded after registration as an undergraduate student.


Chemical Engineering Academic Achievement Scholarships

These scholarships are worth up to £1,500 each and are for students intending to commence their studies in 2019-20. 

Eligibility

You must:

  • Be classed as a Home/EU student for tuition fee purposes.
  • Achieve A*AA or better at A level, or equivalent.
  • Make the University of Sheffield your firm choice in your UCAS application. 

Scholarships are awarded after registration as an undergraduate student. Half the scholarship will be paid during the first semester of first year, with the second half contingent upon achieving at least a 2:1 average at the end of the first year of study.


Academic Excellence Scholarship

This scholarship is worth £4,500 and is for students intending to commence their studies in 2019-20.

Eligibility

You must:

  • Be classed as a Home/EU student for tuition fee purposes.
  • Make the University of Sheffield your firm choice in your UCAS application. 

This scholarship is awarded to the first year student who achieves the highest number of UCAS points across their highest-scoring three A levels (or equivalent) including pre-requisite subjects.
