Description

There are two opportunities on Ash Wednesday, which is an important day in the Christian calendar, for students and staff to mark the start of the Christian season of Lent (see below).

  1. Come to the outside of the Octagon Centre at the foot of the steps on Wednesday 02 March between 11h and 14h (outside) to be ‘ashed’!  This involves being smeared on the forehead with an ash cross, using burnt palm leaves that have completely cooled down.
  2. Join a service including Ashing for Ash Wednesday, inside the Octagon in the Gathering Room (L7) from 1310h to 1340h.

Lent is a six-week season of reflection leading to Easter. 'Ashing' is a Christian religious ritual performed on Ash Wednesday.
