My path to a PhD

Tom boosted his practical while completing a research project based around catalysis and, as a result, has secured a PhD position at a different university.

I decided to study at the University of Sheffield due to its high reputation for academia and student experience. I have enjoyed the opportunity to choose which topics I wanted to study throughout the year, allowing me to specialise in the areas I find interesting.

My research topic is in developing metal-organic frameworks for the capture of rhodium catalysts, through the use of ionic forces. These frameworks allow the catalyst to be stabilised and removed from the products with relative ease.

My practical and organisational skills have improved throughout the course and the project, and have been tested along the way.

MSc Chemistry

I am going to be starting a PhD at the University of Leeds after this course has ended, which wouldn't be possible without the research project I did here with Dr Anthony Haynes.
