How to apply
If you would like to be considered for a place on one of our undergraduate courses, you should apply through UCAS, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service.

If you don't meet our entry requirements, our International College offers an International Foundation Year in Science and Engineering. The programme is designed to develop your academic level in your chosen subject, introduce you to the study skills that will be vital to success and help with language if you need it.
For all of our courses (except Chemical Physics), we ask for the following qualifications at A level, or equivalent:

All our courses require at least grade B in GCSE Mathematics.
We can accept other qualifications including Scottish Highers, Welsh Baccalaureate, Irish Leaving Certificate, International and European Baccalaureates, Access and BTEC courses. A full list is given on the University of Sheffield's webpages for undergraduate students:

English language requirements
All students need to have an English language qualification. UK students typically need to have a grade C in GCSE English Language, or higher. We also accept a range of alternative UK qualifications.
If you are an EU or international student, we accept qualifications from several countries, as well as a range of international qualifications and tests. A full list is given on the University's webpages for undergraduate students:
If you do not currently meet our English language requirements, the English Language Teaching Centre offers English language courses for students who are preparing to study at the University of Sheffield.
June-August: Shortlist several University Open Days. You can book online to visit our department, and tour the campus, accommodation, and city.
September-January: Finalise your choices of University and complete and submit your UCAS form. The applications deadline is 15 January (except Medicine & Dentistry). Applications after this date may not be considered.
September-March: Once we receive your UCAS form, we'll send you an acknowledgement and consider your application. If we offer you a place, you will be invited to visit the department on one of our post-offer open days.
Early May: UCAS requires you to make your firm and insurance choices. The deadline for applications made after 15 January is later.
Mid-August: If you made Sheffield your firm choice and you met the conditions of the offer, your place in the department will be confirmed.
However, if you narrowly miss the conditions of your offer, you will be considered for any remaining places we have on our course before they are released into clearing. Should you have any concerns or queries at confirmation, please contact the department.
