Arriving at the department

You'll have booked to visit us 10am to 12.30pm or 2pm to 4.30pm on your offer holder day. Please arrive in good time for the start of your booked session, as we'll need to scan the QR code from your booking to register you.

Your arrival location is: Richard Roberts Atrium. You can view this on our interactive campus map, and there'll also be lots of open day staff and ambassadors around campus to help you.

If you arrive late for your booked session, please report to the general information stand on the Students’ Union concourse, where event staff will be able to help.

When booking, you'll be able to reserve a place for yourself and one guest at the department activities. To ensure safe venue capacities, we'll be unable to accommodate any additional unbooked visitors.

However, you're welcome to bring additional guests to accompany you on the day, and we'd encourage these guests to take part in our range of central exhibitions and tours while the department activities are running.

Activities

Here's a bit more information on the departmental activities you'll take part in on the day to give you a real taste of what it's like to be a student at Sheffield.

Tutorial

You'll take part in a taster tutorial, working on an activity as part of a small group with a member of academic staff that will highlight how we run tutorial sessions in the first year. The session is informal and you don't have to prepare anything beforehand.

Ice cream lecture

Join us for this lecture where we'll demonstrate the chemistry behind making ice cream, followed by some freshly prepared samples for you to try.

Parents and supporters

While you're taking part in the tutorial, parents and supporters will receive more information about our department and facilities. They'll also get a chance to speak to current students and staff about the exciting opportunities that are available to you, and where a degree from Sheffield can lead.

Science and Engineering Foundation Year

If you're holding an offer for one of our courses with a Foundation Year, you should book your 2.5 hour visit with us as normal, but then also attend our Science and Engineering Foundation Year (SEFY) talk which will run 1pm to 1.30pm in Diamond Lecture Theatre 9, on the second floor of the Diamond building.

No pre-booking is required for this SEFY talk, but all foundation year offer holders are strongly encouraged to attend to learn more about this part of your course.

An information stand for the Foundation Year will also be available just inside the Diamond's main entrance (off Leavygreave Road) from 12-2.30pm, for any visitors who might have questions.
