Most technical problems can be resolved by the Helpdesk via phone or email. However it may be necessary for a CiCS technician to examine your problem on-site, for example if the problem is affecting a desktop computer. Requests for on-site visits should be made by telephoning 0114 222 1111 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that on-site visits are only available for problems affecting University-owned computers.
If emailing, please be prepared to provide us with the following information:
- the location of the problem
- times or dates when visits would be inconvenient
- an alternative telephone contact
- error messages or a description of the problem.
Jobs are prioritised by the IT Support Group and you will be given an estimated time as to then a technician can visit.
If you have problems with portable devices like laptops and tablets, you can bring it to the Computing Centre on Hounsfield Road. Users of the “Remote Access to Sheffield” service may also be requested to bring their equipment to the Computing Centre, as we are unable to make home visits.
