Welcome to Civil and Structural Engineering!

We are one of the largest and most active Civil and Structural Engineering departments. We focus on delivering quality, impactful research and excellent teaching, with a strong NSS standing and being ranked one of the very best for research excellence according to the last Research Excellence Framework (2021).

Our academics work across the spectrum of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering to deliver outstanding research and education, supporting our students to become independent thinkers and innovators that can help to regenerate a thriving planet and secure the enduring wellbeing of all humanity.

We are dedicated to improving diversity and inclusion, and have been awarded the Athena Swan silver award in recognition of this. Our department is a supportive, dedicated and tightly-knit team that we would love you to be a part of.
