Our vision is to develop marketing and communications that are relevant, engaging, focused and impactful – locally, nationally and globally – to enhance our reputation among our many different audiences.
Corporate Communications is responsible for ensuring a consistent marketing and communications focus across the University.
We manage the development of our central communication channels, as well as working on campaigns that engage a wide range of audiences, from our own staff, partners and students, to the local community and many varied influencers, public figures and bodies, and the media.

Attracting and retaining the very best academic and professional services staff is vital to our development and growth.
Although our department is structured into teams, we work in an integrated way to consider all marketing and communications channels and opportunities.
Establishing strong and influential relationships with the media and other influencers helps us to tell the world about the excellence of our research, teaching and university objectives. Our award-winning Media and PR Team builds and maintains media and stakeholder relationships to create impact where it matters.
We support the University’s strategic objectives through planned PR and media activity that drives awareness among our target audiences. Each member of the Media and PR Team is responsible for leading the PR activity for a University faculty and for a strategic theme. Running a busy press office, we respond to international, national and local media enquiries and take a proactive approach to showcasing the University’s expertise by finding opportunities for comment on current world issues.
The Media and PR Team is also responsible for community relations and works to build effective relationships with local community leaders – responding to issues and building mutual goodwill.
The Marketing Team provides expert advice on all aspects of marketing strategy and communications to colleagues and stakeholders across the University.
The team leads the planning and delivery of strategic marketing priorities for the University, coordinating cross-team working alongside academic and professional service colleagues. We provide guidance on the University’s visual identity and tone of voice and manage a roster of external agencies, copywriters and photographers.
We manage a wide range of activities including the production of key publications such as the prospectus and annual report; development and delivery of advertising campaigns; copywriting; video briefing and production; development of content for web; collating case studies; market research and insight; and ad-hoc projects (eg Sheffield Crowd).
The digital engagement team aims to create engaging digital communications, using multiple platforms to be part of the digital conversation. The team also offers support and guidance to the wider University and provides frameworks for others to work from.
The team manages and monitors the University of Sheffield website, social media channels and Youtube.
We deliver high-quality, impactful, engaging and collaborative internal communications that drive advocacy. We want our staff to feel knowledgeable and confident about what we do and the contribution they make.
We produce professional internal communications that are vibrant and engaging, using a consistent approach and making sure we stay focused on what our staff want to know, or need to know and that they hear it from us first.
We work across the University to find stories and content worth sharing, ranging from important information and strategic updates to showcasing our excellence and general interest news. We work especially closely with our colleagues in HR to help share the many exciting initiatives that make us all proud to work here.
We take the lead in creating and coordinating the delivery of a range of communications to students, including maintenance and updating of the student news pages and social media channels.
We work with colleagues across the University on projects to improve their student communications using our expertise to maximise their impact via a wide variety of channels.
Supporting the University Executive Board's Public Value Sub Group, we are helping to embed public value further within the core business and structures of the University.
Working with colleagues across the faculties, departments and professional services, and engaging with our external stakeholders, we identify where the University is making a positive difference, and where we could do more.
In particular, we focus on addressing the social, environmental and economic impacts of our operations and our sustainable development goals.
