Tom White wins 2nd Place Award for the ESEC/FSE Student Research Competition
Darwin is a fourth year module run in the Department of Computer Science. Part of the module requires students to write a research paper. One of the groups (Tom White, David Paterson and Jonathan Turner) had their paper accepted for publication at SSBSE.
Tom White is now studying for his PhD in the department. His supervisor, Dr Gordon Fraser, suggested that he submit a short paper about the Darwin project to the FSE conference (SSBSE was co-located with ESEC/FSE which is a much larger software engineering conference). The conference is sponsored by ACM and for this conference they ran a student research competition which is the category Tom submitted his paper to.
Tom’s paper was accepted and he had to present a poster which took him to the next round where he had to give a 10 minute presentation to the general public at the conference. Tom finished in 2nd place for the undergraduate category in the Student Research Competition overall.
